What documents and identification is necessary at check-in at the airport when traveling around Kazakhstan?

  • Passport;
  • Original ID card/electronic document from the e-gov portal or passport (for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan - with the indication of IIN);
  • Birth certificate (for children under 16 years old);
  • Residence permit for a foreign citizen in the Republic of Kazakhstan (with IIN);
  • Stateless person certificate;
  • Refugee ID.

Copies and scans of documents are not accepted.

Can I present or use an electronic version of the document from the eGov portal?

Electronic forms of documentation are accepted in all cities of Kazakhstan for check-in and registration. We still recommend having original documentation with you, in case any technical issues arise with the systems.

Can I provide a scanned/photocopy version or a notarized copy of my document that confirms my identity?

The only documents that will be accepted for check-in and registration are those in their original form or or electronic versions from the eGov website. No screenshots, no copies or scans will be accepted, as airport security equipment will technologically not be able to read the barcodes from these copies.

What documents should a child (2-16 years old) have with them at the airport to fly within Kazakhstan?

  • Birth certificate (if the child is under 16 years old).
  • ID card (for children aged 16 and older).
  • If the child is traveling with a third party, a notarized authorization from one of the parents/guardians is required for the accompanying adult passenger.
  • If the child is traveling alone, a notarized authorization from one of the parents is needed for both the person dropping off and the person receiving the child (if they are not a parent/guardian). What documents does a child (aged 2-16) need to have at the airport for international flights?

  • Passport and Birth Certificate (for children under 16 years old)
  • Passport (from 16 years old).
  • Notarized consent from one parent for border crossing (if the child is traveling with one parent or without parents).
  • If the child is traveling with a third party, a power of attorney from one parent/guardian is required for the adult accompanying the child during the flight.
  • If the child is traveling alone, a power of attorney from one parent for the accompanying and receiving individual (if this is not a parent/guardian) is required.

  • Visa (if required for the destination country).

Can I travel abroad with an ID card?

A passport is required to travel abroad (exception: Kyrgyzstan). The ID card is only valid within Kazakhstan.

What should I do if my ticket was issued under my old name and last name (surname)?

If your first name or last name (surname) changes after purchasing the ticket, you need to contact the place where you purchased the ticket to make changes to the booking. If the change occurred before the ticket was issued, corrections will not be allowed. Learn more here.

Can I fly with a passport if my ticket was purchased using an ID card or vice versa?

You must use the document specified during the tickets' booking. If there is a discrepancy, please update the document number in the booking in advance by contacting the place of purchase. This service is provided free of charge.

What documents do I need to present to the airline staff before boarding?

Your printed/electronic boarding pass and an ID/passport.

What if I have a new passport, but my ticket was issued under my old one?

You need to contact the ticket purchase point in advance to update the document number.

What if my ID document expires before my flight?

You can only fly with a valid document. For international flights, the passport must be valid for at least six months from the planned return date to Kazakhstan.

I have a temporary document because my ID has expired. Will it be accepted for check-in?

You must present the original ID or passport.

I'm a Kazakh citizen and my passport has been lost or stolen while abroad. What should I do?

You should contact the nearest Kazakh embassy/consulate in your location. A certificate of return will be issued, allowing entry to Kazakhstan. If you have a domestic flight after arriving home, you can use your ID or its electronic version from the eGov portal.

My document is torn. Will a repaired document be accepted for check-in?

If all personal details are readable, the document will be accepted.

What documents do foreigners need for traveling to Kazakhstan?

For entry into Kazakhstan, foreign citizens, in addition to a valid passport, must first check the entry requirements and independently ensure they have the necessary documents for entry into the country (such as a visa, invitation, etc.).

What do Kazakh citizens need besides a passport to travel abroad?

The passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the end of the trip.
To ensure a smooth border control process when departing from Kazakhstan, we recommend checking the debtors' registry for travel restrictions.
Familiarize yourself in advance with the entry requirements for the destination country and prepare the necessary documents (visa, entry permit, etc.).

I have an international flight with a child. What documents are required?

For international flights, the child must have their own passport.

If you are a parent: you must provide the child's birth certificate to confirm your status as the accompanying parent(s).

If you are an accompanying adult (not the parent/guardian): you must provide the child's birth certificate and a notarized power of attorney from both parents.

The requirement to provide the original power of attorney remains in effect if the document does not have a QR code and is signed manually by the grantor and the notary.

The child flies with his grandmother. Do I need a power of attorney from my parents?

Yes, when accompanying a child, third parties must provide a notarized power of attorney from the parents.
